Home Schoolers Grow-Up

Homeschoolers do grow up and join the real world. Well, if you consider that homeschoolers are not in the real world in the first place. I happen to have a different opinion. I believe homeschoolers are in the real world as opposed to students in a school (institutional) setting where the real world is piped in to them in the form of books, videos, and lectures.
When homeschoolers grow up, they are already adapted to the real world because they have been a part of it their whole lives. They have participated in the living process. They have helped with dad's honey-do list, yard work, cooking meals, doing the grocery shopping, helping to balance the checkbook, and learning about daily living by participating in it. Many have learned of the business world through apprenticeships, helping to manage a family business, or holding part-time jobs.
It is very different for traditionally schooled children to graduate than it is for homeschoolers. Public school students have to learn how to manage their lives outside of a school setting. Homeschoolers have been doing that all along. Not only do the traditional students need to learn to make it on their own, they have to learn an entire set of skills that comes naturally to home schooled students. Interacting in the real world is very different than an institutional setting.
Many homeschoolers and traditional school students take on jobs while they are completing their education. This can be very beneficial to the adjustment process, for homeschooled and traditional students alike. Many home school students find work in a field they are interested in learning. They do this to see if it is a career field they are interested in pursuing. Not only do they earn an income and learn to handle money and responsibility, they learn tons about the real world.
Many people do not understand the graduation process for home school students. They don't understand where a transcript comes from or if they can go to college. Since homeschooling has come so far, there are so many helpful resources available to address these concerns. Yes, homeschoolers can and do attend college. A home school student must have a high school transcript just like traditional students in order to fulfill college entrance requirements.
Grown-up home schoolers are carving a path for themselves. They are successful both in college and careers. The nurturing environment of the home school turns out highly successful adults. This is not to say that traditional students cannot be wonderful adults but the test of time has proven that as homeschoolers grow up they are thriving in the real world .
